Age: 18 and older. Sex: any. Healthy volunteers: not accepted.

You may qualify if…

• Sepsis
• Age >17 years
• Arterial catheter
• Lactate > 2 mmol at any time point prior to inclusion

You may not qualify if…

• Mitochondrial defect
• Degenerative muscle disease
• Terminal liver failure
