- Patients with essential hypertension
- Patients who are eligible and able to participate in the study Exclusion Criteria
- Severe hypertension
- History or evidence of a secondary form of hypertension
- History of Hypertensive encephalopathy or cerebrovascular accident. Other protocol-defined exclusion criteria may apply.
