- LDL-C concentrations >120 mg/dL
- Menopausal status: postmenopausal

- Use of medications known to affect lipid metabolism
- Untreated thyroid disease
- Diabetes mellitus
- Abnormal kidney function
- Abnormal liver function
- Smoking
- Alcohol consumption > 2 drinks/day
